Children’s name tags

The last day of term is when parents and children alike can now start to wind down. So you don’t need to worry about children name tags…for a few weeks anyway.

As the last day of school fast approaches your little ones are ready for dropping with all the stresses and strains of school and home life being released and junior can hopefully get some much needed rest and down time.

I’m not about to tell you that you need to prepare now for the next school term.  Ohh no, no, no. – It’s time to take a break.  I thought it might amuse to offer a reflection on my little one’s first school year and how he faired with his possessions.

To date we have lost or mislaid;

As a parent who was new to the whole school thing.  I’m not sure whether the above list is good or bad – do let me know.

So when all is said in done the first year has been chaotic and a little stressful – but wholly enjoyable.  Can’t wait for little sister to start in September.  Ahhhhh

If I could offer one piece of advice for the first timers in September.  Get your labels earlier.  Label everything and hope for the best.  Enjoy your summer everyone.

If you are interested in planning early, very well done.   All your children’s name tags can be found on our website.

Birthday stickers make planning children’s birthdays easier

My one hope for my kids, very early on, was that they had lots of friends. This would make the transition into and through school easier – at least in theory.   And having a wide circle of friends meant he would never be short of play dates

But having a wide circle of friends has meant lots of birthday parties and lots of presents.

I will often buy, wrap and label presents in bulk and in advance.  This means that I can simply grab the present as we chaotically run out the door on the way the party.  This may seem slightly procedural and take away any of the niceties of choosing a present for someone.   But, and this is a big but. It save time and a lot of hassle.  I don’t need to tell any parents that time-savers are important in everyday living.

Birthday Stickers

I much prefer using Birthday stickers, rather than the stringy labels. This means that they are unlikely to fall off – thus loosing the necessary information. I have, many a time, lost birthday tags and had to peel open a corner of a present to determine its contents and rightful owner.

Birthday Stickers cost £6.13

You get 32 stickers per pack.
Various designs include, dogs, rockets and girly handbags.

They are a bit fun and are suitable for boys and girls.

Someone else’s shoes – I need shoe labels

It happens from time to time – lost property at school.

My eldest sons goes to school with all the right clothes and then occasionally, comes back with someone else’s.  In this particular instance he has come home with someone else’s shoes – and they are too small.

I’ve spent the past few days texting other parents, talking to them in the play-ground and asking teachers for help. All to no avail.

I suppose, I should have used some form of shoe labels.

The shoe labels cost £2.54 for a pack of 24

Clear Shoe Labels

The labels are waterproof and are clear.  work in  or sometimes know as shoe labels

In teh meantime I will try and track down these errant shoes.

Summer Fetes are a quintessential part of English life and as the summer arrives, parish and church committees shall be gathering and debating the merits of the Fete decorations.

There is something about a village green swathed in flag bunting that really stirs the poetic juices in me and forces me to recall William Blake poem, “And did those feet in ancient time”.

House number stickers

Disorganised, is the watch word within our family at the moment or at least it has been for the past 2 years. There’s nothing quite like a new child to bring chaos into your home life.

So, with early mornings, late feeds, and a general lack of sleep, my ability to control the home and all the administrative jobs and chores that are required has been greatly reduced.

So much so that when we had new door fitted 1 year ago, we still have not fitted a door number. The days disappeared into weeks, the weeks into months. We have had any number of reminders from couriers and postmen, “Did you know that it is a legal requirement to have you house clearly numbered”, and so on.

Well precisely 1 year, 3 months 16 days and now 6 hrs later. We have a new House number sticker fitted.

To be honest, the main reason we plumbed for the sticker was that we couldn’t afford an expensive engraved glass option.
And whilst they do look terrific, they were just too expensive.

The House number sticker comes in three size 10, 15 and 20 cm’s and cost £2.00

You can have a choice of colour including and etched glass motif and you can also customise a mirror cut (if you wish to stick them inside.

You can also customise it with a House name, I know someone who named his house Mithril after the fictional metal found into the JRR Tolkein books – why? Each to their own I suppose.

Keep your children safe this Summer with the SafetyTAT

With summer on its way we as a family love to be outdoors. So, there will be plenty of trips to the beach, an occasional jolly to the Zoo and lots of parks and adventure playgrounds to get lost in.

Now I don’t consider myself as an over protective parent (what my peers might say is a different matter). But I do subscribe to the “just in case” philosophy when it comes to the safety of my children.

Now there are two options here, ID bracelet or SafetyTATs. Both work equally well, one is more durable that the other.

SafetyTats are an award winning, temporary, safety tattoo that you can write your mobile telephone number onto. So if you do become separate from your child then you can be easily contactable. It’s a simple idea but can work very well.

The tattoo’s are waterproof, easy to apply and can last up to 2 weeks.

So what do you get.

There are 6 Tatoos, 6 skin prep wipes plus a pen.

Simply peel and stick the tattoo directly to your child’s skin. Write your mobile number

I liken these safety tattoos to Insurance Policy. 99.9% of the time you will not need to use it. But for that 0.1% of the time they are invaluable.

Fun with words

For the first years years, I have spend endless hours try to encourage the children not to write on the walls. As a parent I have nagged and nagged the children to write draw and colour-in on paper and NOT walls.

It’s not always been successful, but, at the age of 5 my son has been graffiti free for about 8 months. It’s not that he’s a bad child, he just gets carried away with himself.

However, now this period of abstinence has hopefully, been bed rocked into his psyche – I’m about to throw caution to the wind with some wall letter stickers.

Wall lettering

Wall quotes added an extra element of fun to our son’s bedroom.  We choose the sleep word and the play.  They just break up the plain boring walls a little bit.

There are different words you can buy

“Play”

“Love”

“Sweet dreams”

“Sleep”

They all cost £8.00

Bathroom or office wall letters

There are also a selection of words for your bathroom or home office.

“Work”

“Wash”

Again they cost £8.00

Lets build Dad a road to work

My little boy loves cars.  He has spent endless hours playing with a roll-out road matt, where he traces and weaves his cars through the roads and car parks.

One morning, our little boy was curiously asking questions about Dads drive to work; is it a long way, how many roundabouts, what’s it really like to drive 50 miles a day and get stuck in traffic 80% of the time for a job that pays too little and pushes you too hard….(he didn’t ask the last question, although I’m sure he thought it).

Wall stickers

So following-up on this interest on daddies daily commute we thought it would be a good idea for our son to build his own road to work with wall car stickers and road sticker.

So one rainy weekend we all set to work building a road infrastructure on his bedroom wall worthy of the Highways agency.   So, just before School time, our eldest can trace his model Aston Martin along the route and do his own daily commute before breakfast.

Cars Wall Stickers

These car stickers are peelable and repositionable. You get 12 x cars (6 different colours).

Cost:£5.00

Road Stickers

This build a road set comes with 15 road sections and 6 cars.

Cost: £20.00

I must say that since, the new road network was in place, there seem to have been several speeding penalties issued to Dad.  That sounds about right.
